Student Volunteers Formation
The Student Volunteers Formation Program (SVFP) is one of the components under the Social Formation and Advocacy Program of Kristohano’ng Katilingban sa Pagpakabana – Social Involvement Program (KKP – SIP). Its main thrust is to facilitate a holistic formation for the student volunteers aiming to grow into persons for others through their assistance in the implementation of KKP programs and their involvement in the transformation of society. The formation is concentrated in the five key areas of growth: Self and Others, Social Orientation and Responsibility, Faith and Justice, Attitude and Value of Education, and Program and Group Handling.
The Student Volunteers Formation Program is the flagship program of KKP-SIP. It is one of the reasons for the existence of the Office. The formation of student volunteers aims to develop in them a greater understanding of the Self, to enhance their leadership skills and abilities and to inculcate in them the significance of social awareness and responsibility. It also aspires to concretize XU’s Mission-Vision of molding Persons for Others who will see their education as a tool for social change and who will then become successor generations who will work for social development.
The program has three stages. The first one caters to the Sophomore Volunteers. They undergo series of formation activities that revolved around the Self and the understanding of the process of growth. They also begin to become exposed and offer their assistance in the different programs of the Office. The second stage focuses on the Junior Volunteers. They also undertake chain of formation and trainings that deepen their experience and understanding of Self in relation with Others. They learn to take responsibility of leading the committees where they belong and of accompanying their fellow volunteers in the journey. The last level is for the Senior Volunteers. They further experience formation sessions and consultations that sustain the formation they gained and lead them to understand the relationship of Self with the Society. They lead the community of volunteers to initiate actions prompted by the present social concerns and walk with them in the processes they are going through, conscious that they are co-formators of their co-volunteers.
The program had gone through so many explorations over the years to meet the concerns and challenges of the present situation of the students. Moreover, the overhauling of the program is called for this school year to offer the student volunteers a formation that will cater the sustenance of their experiences in NSTP and to create greater impact in them.
