MILF Speaks of Peace

Joined by the vision of building a peaceful community where Muslims and Christians live in strong solidarity, the Civil Society Organizations together with representatives from various institutions, ethnic groups, various church ministries and the Local Government Units faced the Moro Islamic Liberation Front Peace Panel in a non-violent dialogue on June 13 at the Balay Mindanaw Foundation Inc (BMFI) Peace Center from 9 am to 1 pm to clarify fears and doubts regarding the Bangsamoro state that the MILF proposes.

During the consultation, the final comprehensive compact on Interim Governance which was a response to the 2008 MOA-AD and was submitted by the MILF to the Aquino Administration on February 9, 2011 was presented and discussed. The presentation was followed by a series of questions and clarifications from different sectors regarding wealth sharing, territorial jurisdiction, women’s participation, and dealings with other existing armed groups (i.e. MNLF, NPA) and minority ethnic groups within the Bangsamoro state. Other issues dealt with during the discussion were the functions of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the working relationship between the Bangsamoro State and the Local Development Councils, and the involvement of the Bangsamoro State in the proposed federalization of the Philippines. A proposal to form a steering committee or a speaker’s bureau to continue the advocacy commenced the Regional Peace Committee Dialogue.

Armed with their peaceful intentions, the MILF posed a challenge for everyone to join hands in preserving what’s left for the future generations. The Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan delegates which included representatives from Museo de Oro and KKP-SIO on the other hand promised to do their share in putting the academe in the forefront of “righting” History.

The consultation in Cagayan de Oro was the third in the Series of Dialogues of the MILF which started in Pagadian City and Iligan City.

O, Panginoon, para sa kanila na binawian ng buhay at sa kanilang naghihinagpis sa pagkawala ng kanilang mga kaibiga’t kaanak, Iyong awa ang aming hiling.

O, Panginoon, para sa kanilang sugatan at naghihintay pa ng tulong, paghilom at pagkalinga ang aming naisin.

O Panginoon, para sa kanilang nagbibigay tulong at tumutugon sa pangangailangan ng lahat ng mga nasalanta pati na rin sila na ang tungkulin ay ang paghahanap sa mga nasawi, patnubay, lakas ng loob at higit pang materyal at espirituwal na biyaya ang aming dalangin.

O Amang mahabagin, alam namin na hindi Mo kami iiwanan at lilisanin. Kapiling ka namin magpakailan man, anumang pighati at trahedyang aming sapitin at harapin.

Ngayong panahon ng Kuwaresma, naway ang kaganapang ito ay magpasidhi pa ng aming pagititiwala at pananampalataya sa Iyo. Naway ang masaklap na pangyayaring ito ay maging paanyaya na kami’y makibahagi sa Iyong naisin na kami ay patuloy na tumugon nang bukas loob at walang pag-aalinlangan sa lahat ng mga nagdurusa at nangangailangan. Nawa’y higit pa kaming maudyok na makapagmahal nang walang kapalit upang sa gayo’y mabanaagan namin sa mga mukha ng aming kapwa ang mukha ng Iyong Anak.

Recreating the Bayanihan Spirit

The Kristohanong Katilingban sa Pagpakabana- Social Involvement Office celebrates the success of its recent Musical Concert Offering entitled, “Himig Nasyonalismo”. The concert was shown at the XU Gymnasium last February 18, 2011 where various groups, organizations and individuals came together as one to witness the modern expression of love for one’s country through the songs of musical icon, Noel Cabangon. The office was successful in achieving the concert’s objective of inspiring Nationalism through revived and newly composed Filipino songs despite the emergence of new wave music genre.

Out of the concert proceeds, KKP-SIO will be implementing its first outreach for the year at the Oro Habitat for Humanity, Inc. in Calaanan, Canitoan Cagayan de Oro City this March 16, 2011. The activity is intended to bring together KKP-SIO’s partner institutions and individuals in and outside Xavier University in a half day activity of reliving the Bayanihan Spirit as they will assist in the construction of 2 houses which will benefit homeless families. KKP-SIO believes that inspiring Nationalism should be an everyday advocacy. It requires a deep sense of commitment in making everyday decisions grounded on love and loyalty for one’s country.

Himig Nasyonalismo: A Benefit Concert featuring Noel Cabangon

Nationalism is a shared characteristic built by a common history, enriched by a dynamic present, and directed towards a promising future. It is in this light that the Kristohanong Katilingban sa Pagpakabana Social Involvement Office (KKP-SIO) in its 25 years of leading Xavier University to become a community that is responsive to the needs of society inspired by Ignatian Advocacy of promoting “Faith that does Justice”, has been faithful in its mission of promoting nationalism among its students and faculty members through actual community engagements that serves as concrete expression of love for one’s country.

KKP-SIO in the celebration of its 25^th year brings to Cagayan de Oro City the songs of renowned musical artist and social advocate, Noel Cabangon through its upcoming musical and advocacy concert offering entitled, “Himig Nasyonalismo” on February 18, 2011, 6:00PM at the Xavier University Gymnasium. The concert is a partnership between KKP-SIO, Office of Research and Social Outreach, First Year Formation Program, Xavier Center for Culture and the Arts and the Volunteers for Community Outreach and Resource Development- Year of Service Program.

A Press Conference is scheduled on the same day, 10:30AM at the Thai Me Up Restaurant, corner Capistrano- Mabini streets, Cagayan de Oro City, this shall be participated by XU’s Vice-President for Research and Social Outreach, Ms. Hilly Ann Roa- Quaoit, the KKP-SIO Director, Ms. Dennise Edwina S. Gonzales and Mr. Noel Cabangon.

It is the organizers’ hope that this concert will not only jumpstart KKP-SIO’s year long Anniversary Celebration but promote as well XU’s mission of “forming men and women for and with others” with a strong sense of service and love for one’s country.
